Russia is one of the many countries that has participated in Vancouver Olympic Winter games in 2010. Its performance throughout the games was not upto the expectation of its fans around the world. Russia, well known for its cold weather, used to perform good in the previous Winter Olympic games, but this time they fail to show their level of performance. They finished 11th in the medals tables after winning 15 medals -- 3 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze, in total. At the Turin Winter Olympic games in 2006, Russian was among the top five with 22 medals, including eight gold medals.Russian's Olympic officials were held responsible by the president and prime minister of the country for the poor performance of the Olympic squad. President Medvedev put it in this way, " If they don't go of their own record, we'll happily help them on their way".
Opposition politician have also called on head of the Russian Olympic committee and sports minister of the country to resign after the devastating performance of their team in the Vancouver Olympic games.
The strict reaction of the president, prime minister, and other politicians towards the team performance was mainly because Russia will be the host country for the next Winter Olympic games in 2014.
